(KMOV.com) – Two Hillsdale police officers are accused of stealing heroin so they could sell it on the street.

Lieutenant Parrish Swanson and officer Raymond Stevens have been charged with one count of conspiracy to distribute heroin and one count of attempting to distribute heroin.

Authorities said Stephens robbed a drug courier while on the clock and then met with a drug dealer to trade narcotics for $900 in cash, $200 of which was allegedly meant for Swanson.

“It makes me feel unsafe because they’re doing the same things they’re locking us up for on the street,” Hillsdale resident Patricia Bowens said.

News 4 tried to track down Swanson at his home but there was no answer at the door, and the windows were covered with towels.

The Hillsdale Chief of Police refused to comment because the investigation is ongoing.

No court date has been set.  Both officers could serve 40 years in prison and pay a $2 million fine if they are convicted.
