(KMOV) -- What once was recognized as Interstate 57, has now become a hot spot for stranded vehicles because of the recent weather conditions.
According to Illinois Emergency Crews this particular stretch of interstate from Champaign to Effingham is the "worst possible combination of circumstances."
Thus far, this stretch of I-57 has caused six semi-trucks and 375 vehicles to become stuck.
Snow drifts as high as eight were reported at one point.
Additionally, this is the same stretch of road that stranded the Southern Illinois University men's basketball team on Sunday night; forcing them to sleep in a nearby church.
