National Weather Service confirms tornado touchdown in New Melle

(KMOV.com) -- The National Weather Service has confirmed that a tornado touched down in the New Melle, Missouri area.

Officials say the tornado was an EF1 and made an initial touchdown just south of Foristell Road. It then lifted just east of Highway Z.

The tornado had a four mile track length, it was at least 150 yards wide and the winds were between 86 to 110 miles per hour.

Some 20 homes were damaged in New Melle.
