(KMOV.com) -- Some shocking findings were released Tuesday by the Missouri State Auditor about millions of tax dollars are being spent.

The statewide audit revealed questionable welfare payouts; in some cases with little or no proof that the person receiving the money is even eligible.

Missouri State Auditor Tom Schweich sampled $135,000 in Temporary Assistance to Needy Families (TANF) payouts to 600 different recipients.

TANF is cash given to welfare recipients, what is purchased with that cash is not tracked.

In 22% of the cases sampled, basic documentation determining whether the recipient was even eligible was missing.

In some cases there was no verification that a minor was living in the home, which is one of the requirements of receiving TANF.

This year's audit findings are consistent with the past two years, which means the lack of documentation remains a big problem.
