ST. LOUIS -- Hundreds of runners turned out in St. Louis' Forest Park Saturday to show support for the Boston Marathon and the running community.
Organizers of the GO! St. Louis Marathon put together the run. There was no fee for what was deemed the Boston Marathon Unity Run. Several runners wore blue and yellow, the official Boston Marathon colors.
Mark Volkmann, a St. Charles resident, ran in the 2013 Boston Marathon and finished more than an hour before the explosion went off at the finish line. Volkmann was one of about 500 runners at the event in Forest Park.
GO! St. Louis began organizing the run Wednesday, two days after the bombing at the Boston Marathon.
The Unity Run for Boston is sponsored by GO! St. Louis and St. Louis Track Club.
