A snowstorm bound for the Midwest dumped heavy snow on the Sacramento, Calif. area and the mountains north of the city, making a mess of the roads.

The same system is expected to hit the St. Louis area late Thursday morning.

A Winter Storm Watch is in effect for the bi-state region from early Thursday morning through 12 a.m. Friday.

When the storm hits, residents in the bi-state region should expect an assortment of weather.

Snow, sleet and freezing rain will spread across the area, mainly from late Thursday morning through the afternoon and into the early evening hours.

In St. Louis, a snow and sleet mix is expected with some freezing rain late in the day or evening.
