ST. LOUIS (KMOV.com) -- The new year began on a very cold note, and to combat that, The Salvation Army distributed 1,000 scarves, gloves and hats to the homeless.
Those who helped say it was well worth a few hours out in the freezing temperatures.
“We’ve had a few people already begin to cry when we’ve given some of the items,” said Red Cross volunteer Tony DiStefano. “Practically everybody says thank you, a lot of god bless yous, a lot of happy new years. Everybody thanks us. Its very rewarding.”
The team also handed out fruit, snacks, chocolate milk and coffee from the Red Cross canteen.
