ST. LOUIS (KMOV) -- It’s been about a year since a tornado destroyed much of Lambert Airport’s Concourse C.

Airport Director Rhonda Hamm-Niebruegge admits she’s a little nervous about Monday’s re-opening, saying she just wants everything to go well.

That’s because a lot of hard work has gone into a massive effort to revamp Concourse C.

“I think all of us are going to take a sigh of relief and a little bit of pride and joy in it.  It was a hard, hard year when you look at the devastation we saw a year ago here, so to be able to come back and do this, to see the traffic increase over the year, to have a better feel of the venues on the concourse that are St. Louis-themed, just in general I think it’s going to be a great day for all of us,” said Hamm-Niebruegge.

You won’t have to look hard to find shops and restaurants on the revamped concourse. On top of new tile, bathrooms, seats, and more, the concourse will harbor a Schlafly, Starbucks, Chili’s Too, and a Mediterranean restaurant.

“It’s been noted as just a more dark and dated airport.  So I think what this does is it brings in that feel of what a lot of the airports today are looking for which is more open, more lighted,  more airy, and more spirited,” Hamm-Niebruegge said.

If you’re traveling Monday, airlines will be functioning as normal in Concourse C, and while not all of the work will be completed by Monday morning, about 99 percent will be.

What you’ll see and experience is a vast improvement from the last time Concourse C was open.
