(KMOV) -- Two men were killed after a tractor-trailer slammed into an overpass on Interstate 64 near New Baden, Ill. Wednesday morning.

Officials say the 18-wheeler slammed into the Billhartz Rd. overpass near mile marker 32 around 6 a.m.

Illinois State Police confirm two men, ages approximately 27 and 55, died. Their identities have not been released.

Police say the truck belonged to a Florida-based company and was hauling spools of wire. The wreck split the truck's cab in half, and wire spewed all over the interstate.

Authorities expect all westbound lanes to remain closed until after 12 p.m. while IDOT crews inspect the overpass and clean up the scene.

For a detour, drivers were being urged to exit at Route 8 North near Damiensville, then head to Route 161 West, which connects to I-64 in New Baden.

Additional details surrounding the crash were not immediately available.
