(KMOV.com) -- Police said a suspect is in custody after he shot and killed a friend during an argument over a beer spill in downtown St. Louis early Thursday morning.
Authorities said four men were riding in a truck drinking alcoholic beverages near the intersection of Chestnut and 7th when the 34-year-old suspect spilled beer in the vehicle.
Police said an argument ensued and the suspect grabbed a gun and fired several shots at his 29-year-old friend, striking him multiple times in the chest. He was later pronounced dead at the scene.
Authorities said the suspect attempted to flee, but another man in the vehicle chased him. Police said the suspect then tried to shoot him but missed.
The two began fighting and the second victim grabbed the suspect’s gun. A witness who was with the group took the gun from the other man and placed it in the truck until police arrived.
The suspect was taken to the hospital and treated for a head injury sustained during the fight.
The second victim suffered lacerations but was treated at the scene.
