(KMOV) – A child is in critical condition after the vehicle he was in crashed, causing a multi-vehicle collision in south St. Louis city Thursday afternoon.

Authorities say the driver of a silver Altima was spotted by a nearby St. Louis County police officer traveling at a high rate of speed on South Broadway around 3:30 p.m.

During an attempted traffic stop by the officer, the suspect increased their speed and violated several traffic signals.

As the suspect crossed the intersection of Broadway and Marceau, they collided with several vehicles and ultimately spun out of control and struck another vehicle before coming to a rest.

Emergency crews responded to the scene where at least 3 people suffered injuries.

Police say a 3-year-old child was ejected from the suspect’s vehicle.

The suspect was taken into custody at the scene, and the child is listed in critical condition at a local hospital.
