ST. CHARLES, Mo. (KMOV) -- A St. Charles landlord is accused of assaulting his tenants to get them removed from their apartments.

Charles McKee, 50, was charged Tuesday with three counts of third-degree assault.

According to St. Charles police, Charles McKee, 50, established intentionally instigated fights with his tenants in order to get them removed from his property so he could keep their rent and deposit money.

Police say McKee chased one such tenant down a hallway on December 10, pushing and chest-butting the man.

McKee then called police to get the resident removed from his property, reassuring police that he would return the tenant’s security deposit and unused rent.

But all of the former tenants told police they never received the reimbursements. Police said McKee had committed the scam on several different occasions.

Bail for McKee was set at $2,000 cash.
