(KMOV) – Police say a man, armed with a knife, threatened adults and two small children in Franklin County.
Officials confirm the Department of Family Services is looking into the living conditions of the kids after the suspect in this case threatened a one-year and four-month-old with a knife and to top it off he also stole a car.
Perry Crawford, 22, was spotted on surveillance creeping around a VFW Office in Sullivan just before making off with a stolen pickup truck, police say.
After taking that truck, deputies say he went back to a friend’s house where an argument over the stolen truck quickly escalated.
“There was supposed to have been some physical altercation and the knife allegedly came out and it went downhill from there,” said Sheriff Gary Toelke, of the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office.
Crawford left before anyone was seriously hurt but when deputies searched the home, they located drug paraphernalia and alcohol in plain view and reach of the small children.
“It’s really sad to have children in that kind of environment we've contact department of family services and they're continuing that part of the investigation,” said Sheriff Toelke.
Deputies later arrested Crawford after they found him walking home. Officials say the stolen truck was found burned out after someone set it on fire. Investigators are still working to learn more on that part.
Crawford faces assault and child endangerment charges.
