(KMOV.com) – Police say three people, including an employee, were responsible for stealing from a JC Penney in Fenton last month.

According to police, an employee of the JC Penney in Gravois Bluffs told authorities he wore dark make-up to appear African-American so his co-workers would not recognize him.

Police said the make-up was stolen by one of his accomplices from a nearby Walmart.

Authorities said the worker then hid inside the store just before closing time. When fellow employees had left, the man allegedly stole about $800 from the store’s register, along with a pair of Nike shoes and a backpack.

Police said a third suspect remains at large.

The suspect later told police he committed the crime because he thought he was underpaid.

Charges against him were pending.
