HOUSTON (KHOU) —Foggy conditions caused nearly 100 vehicles to collide on Interstate 10 between Houston and Beaumont Thanksgiving morning. Two Pearland residents were killed in the crash, according to the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office.
The accident happened on I-10 East near Hamshire Road around 8 a.m., causing the highway to shut down in both directions.
Acadian Ambulance spokewoman Denise Richter said, in addition to the fatality, at least 48 people were transported to the hospital for treatment and several were critically injured, according to KFDM.
I-10 West reopened shortly after noon, but I-10 East will remain closed at least another eight to 10 hours, according to officials.
