(KMOV) -- One year ago Saturday, 18-year-old honor student Aniya Cook was killed while sitting with a friend in a car in north St. Louis City.

Cook’s parents are using the tragedy to bring awareness about gun violence and its impact on the community.

The Cook family has created a scholarship fund, the Aniya Cook Memorial Scholarship Fund, in honor of their daughter. You can find more information here.
