The Major Case Squad has confirmed that the body of a woman found in the trunk of a car in Madison, Illinois is that of a missing St. Louis woman.

Autopsy results showed the woman, Sybil Brandon, died from a gunshot wound to the head.

Police on Friday were preparing to tow a 1996 red Ford Taurus for illegal abandonment near W. 3rd Street and Jackson Street when they discovered Brandon's body in the trunk.

After checking the licenses plates on the vehicle, Madison Police discovered the Taurus belonged to Brandon, 50, who had been reported missing from St. Louis since November 29. At that time, Brandon had not been seen in four days.

Brandon’s vehicle had been tagged as abandoned by city officials on Thanksgiving Day, the day before she was reported missing.

The Major Case Squad of Greater St. Louis is investigating. Anyone with information on Brandon’s disappearance and death are asked to contact authorities.
