(KMOV.com) -- A Michigan principal was getting close to the end of the Boston Marathon when two bombs exploded. Pam Mathers was forced to forfeit the race a mere half mile from the finish line.
But the students at Mathers’ school wanted her to finish the marathon.
Mathers laced up her tennis shoes for a second time and ran the last leg of the race.
Her students gave her high-fives and said they wanted her to focus on her triumph rather than the tragedy.
“It’s incredible, the students,” said Mathers, “They make everything—win or lose—they make everything worth it.”
Mathers said she will not let her experience in Boston deter her from running again.
