(KMOV) – A local man was cuffed and placed under arrest but it turned out O’Fallon, Ill. police had the wrong man in custody.

O’Fallon Police tell News 4 their officers did not check the ID of the man they arrested because he didn’t have one handy.  The victim said he had his license nearby but the cops just wouldn’t listen.

“It took two minutes to run my name and find out I was not the guy they were looking for,” said Corey Carter.

News 4’s Julian Johnson talked to both O’Fallon police and the victim and found a simple ID check could have made the difference.
