(KMOV.com) – Kirkwood police are warning the public about a new scam involving GreenDot MoneyPak cards.

Authorities said a person calls claiming you’re utility bill is late and ask you to get a prepaid Green Dot MoneyPak card. You then provide a 14 digit pin on the back of the card to the caller who then can put that money into a Paypal account.

Kirkwood officials are telling residents that the city runs its own utilities and it will never ask anyone to buy a MoneyPak card.
