(KMOV.com) -- An outpouring of support has allowed Habitat for Humanity to continue its mission after thousands of dollars in tools were stolen from a worksite in the Carondelet neighborhood.

Thieves stole $18,000 in tools from a site on Michigan and Schirmer. On Friday, Home Depot made a donation to replace all of the stolen tools.

"It wasn't the tools that they lost that was the problem," said Dave Foster with Home Depot. "Their mission stopped. They couldn't go out into the field. We were founded on eight core values; one of those is giving back to the community. So we did the same thing."

Officials say the thieves knew what they were doing, targeting high-dollar items for maximum value.

Habitat for Humanity Saint Louis is appealing to neighbors to be more vigilant if they see or hear anything suspicious, as well as asking the community to keep an eye out for the tools as they are all marked HFH STL.

Anyone with information on the thefts should call Crimestoppers at 866-371-TIPS (8477).
