FERGUSON, Mo. (KMOV.com) – Amid all the chaos at night in Ferguson, there are some people who get up bright and early each day to help cleanup the streets from the night before.
Members of the Church of God in Christ’s Urban Initiative have been waking up and cleaning the streets to remove what remains after the protesters and rioters leave.
“We’re here to cleanup where others have messed up,” said Marvin Taylor, a member of the cleanup crew. “We have opportunists who come out and they’re littering and destroying property, but we wanna show the community that we’re here to support them.”
“We thought it would be a good thing to get out here and show that first of all, we’re sympathy with what’s going on in the community. And secondly, to do something tangible that really would make a difference,” Bishop Edwin Bass said.
These volunteers were not alone in their in the task, in fact they had some unexpected help from the Missouri Highway Patrol.
“They stopped by and volunteered. It’s just another picture we’d like to show the community. There is cooperation between law enforcement and the community,” Bishop Bass said.
Bishop Bass says if the chaos continues they will continue working to keep the Ferguson clean.
