(KMOV.com) – Tuesday St. Louis Mayor Francis Slay announced a federal grant program designed to help ex-convicts obtain local job training.
The $2 million grant will go toward helping ex-offenders- specifically fathers- prepare for the workforce through education, training and mentoring.
Edward Wills, a graduate of the program, says the system is designed to help the community that pays for it.
“Once you get that role model back in the home and back involved in the child, the crime rate goes down in the community and everybody is affected when there’s less crime,” he said. “You don’t have to worry about things like stealing in the community and because of that, everybody is affected.”
The program is part of the St. Louis Agency of Employment Training, and will also be overseen by the Fathers’ Support Center.
