Gas prices spike overnight, $3.89/gallon in Granite City

(KMOV) -- Rising crude oil prices caused gas prices to spike on Saturday morning in the St. Louis area and the Metro-East.

A month ago, GasBuddy.com showed that prcies around St. Louis were on average $3.05 a gallon. The News 4 viewing area woke up on Saturday morning to gas prices around $3.69. Gasbuddy.com even reported prices as high as $3.89 in Granite City, Illinois.

GasBuddy.com reports that "Speedie Gas" on North Broadway and Riverview, as well as South Grand and Meremac, have the lowest prices around with a regular gallon of unleaded at $3.29.

Reports indicate prices may go even higher in April and May, before leveling off and falling in the summer.

For some perspective, Hawaii's gas prices are the highest in the nation at $4.25 a gallon.
