FENTON, Mo (KMOV.com) -- St. Louis County police say they have made arrests for a series of car break-ins in the Fenton area.

According to authorities, thieves are using a new method in the crime known as car clotting.

“The new thing is to use a screwdriver on the corner of the window and pry until the window will pop and will shatter throughout the rest of the window,” said St. Louis County Detective Mark Berry. “They’ll do this with tinted windows because the lining will hold the window in place.”

Police say the best advice is to not leave valuables in plain sight for thieves to see in a car, especially things like tablets and phones.
