(KMOV.com) -- A Colorado school board member is under fire for her views on transgender students.

Kathy Svenson was discussing new laws in other states- that allow trans-gender students to self-identify and use whatever bathroom they want.

Svenson, a Delta School District board member, made it clear she would not allow that in her district:

“I just want to emphasize, not in this district. Not until the plumbing’s changed,” she said.
“There would have to be castration in order to pass something like around here.”

Svenson is standing by her comments, saying she just wants to protect female students.

Administrators for the Delta School District were quick to stress they would never suggest castration for transgender boys.
