ST. LOUIS (KMOV.com) -- Mississippi River levels remain dangerously low and could shut down all barge traffic on the river by the end of the month.
On Monday, the Army Corps of Engineers will begin blasting the riverbed in an effort to keep the channel open for barge traffic.
Interrupted barge traffic in the ST. Louis area would cost potentially millions of dollars for companies moving their goods.
The outlook for river levels is improving for the Winter months but it is still unknown whether the river will remain open.
