(KMOV.com) – Two cities in Macoupin County were recovering after severe storms slammed the region late Monday night into Tuesday morning.
A half-dozen businesses in Mount Olive were severely damaged in the storms. Strong winds also damaged a storage building used by the city’s fire department.
The city’s downtown was closed off Tuesday morning while crews assessed damage and looked for downtown power lines. Mount Olive Police Chief Ryan Duggar asked residents to stay inside their homes so assessments can be made.
In Staunton, businesses like Bill’s IGA grocery store near the intersection of Main and Madison sustained heavy damage. Its roof was torn off and thrown into other yards.
No injuries were reported in either city.
Officials have not determined if a tornado was the cause of the damage.
