MILAN (AP) — Fiat SpA has announced the name of the new vehicle in the 500 family that will make its debut at the Geneva Motor Show in March.
The 500L is the new addition in the 500 range after the souped-up Abarth and convertible Cabrio versions, with L standing for large. The five-seat multipurpose vehicle is on a slightly larger platform than the modern version of the iconic city car launched in 2007 and replaces the now phased-out Multipla.
The 500L is being produced at Fiat's factory in Kragujevac, Serbia, and will be introduced in Europe at the end of 2012. Fiat says the vehicle will be initially offered with two gas engines and a turbodiesel.
Fiat, which released the first photos Thursday, said the vehicle is 4.14 meters (13.58 feet) long and 1.78 meters (5.84 feet) wide.
