ST. LOUIS, Mo. (KMOV.com) – Police in St. Louis asked drivers to avoid Interstate 70 downtown Monday afternoon following a tractor trailer accident that scattered debris all over the roadway across from the Gateway Arch grounds.
According to reports, the accident happened just after 1 p.m. at the I-70 and Memorial Drive merge. The driver of a tractor trailer lost control causing the truck to jackknife and crash into a guardrail. The contents of the trailer spilled all over the roadway and forced police to close the interstate.
Officials said no other vehicles were involved. They did not say if the truck driver suffered any injuries.
The eastbound lanes of I-70 that head south through downtown St. Louis were closed for over five hours while crews worked to clear the wreckage.
