(KMOV.com) -- If you are planning on traveling in or out of downtown St. Louis this weekend, you will want to know about the latest roadwork that may cause you a traffic snag.
All westbound lanes of Interstate 64 between the Poplar Street Bridge and 21st Street will be closed this weekend along with two eastbound lanes between 20th and 8th Streets.
According to officials, the shutdown will begin around 8:30 Saturday morning. Crews will be performing routine work to strengthen the bridge in the event of an earthquake. Officials said the most recent earthquake did not damage the bridge.
This closure overlaps with the largest Race for the Cure event in the country. Thousands of people are expected to converge in downtown St. Louis for the Susan G. Komen race. The race does not begin until 8:30 a.m., so the highway will be shutting down right after the race kicks off. Race organizers say it is a good idea to plan to get there early and take Metrolink if that is an option.
All highway and bridge work will be completed in time for the Monday morning commute.
