It all started around 2:00 a.m. on Thursday in the 9600 block of Lilac in north St. Louis County.

According to Riverview police, here is what happened:

Riverview police officers stopped a suspicious vehicle.

While on the scene, a Dodge van and a Dodge Intrepid, went speeding by. The officers reportedly had to move out of the way to avoid being hit.

One of the Riverview officers got into a police vehicle and chased the other two vehicles.

Near Lilac and Scranton, the Intrepid passed the minivan and hit a Ford Taurus near Riverview and Scranton.

Riverview police and Bellefontaine Neighbors police were working on the incident. St. Louis city police who happened to be in the area also responed to the crash involving the Intrepid and the Taurus.

The St. Louis police officers attempted to arrest the suspects in the Intrepid. They caught one of them, but two others got away.

While this was happening, the Dodge van returned to the scene and that's when the officers were struck.

One officer was outside of the patrol car when he was struck, the other was in the passenger seat of the car.

The van was later found in the 600 block of Doddridge.

It is unclear how many people were in the van, but no suspects in that vehicle have been caught.

Both the Intrepid and the van were recently reported stolen.

The driver of the Taurus involved in the accident with the Intrepid was not injured.

The officers were treated at a local hospital and released.
