Friends and family honored the memory of Illinois Police officer, Jeremy Chambers Tuesday. Chambers was killed in the line of duty in the village's 79-year history.

Jeremy’s father, Earl and the rest of his family of law enforcement personnel took part

in the unveiling of a memorial to his son.

Donors from here and across America raised about $ 35,000 to help pay tribute to Jeremy.

A 26-year-old patrolman struck and killed in a head-on crash with an alleged drunk driver one year ago to the day.

Jeremy had also worked as volunteer firefighter in Cahokia for eight years.

His close friends were the first responders who tried for nearly an hour to remove him from his wrecked patrol car.

Jeremy’s father was a Cahokia Police Officer for 27-years.

Other family members work for St. Louis County Police and the DEA among others.

The accused drunk driver is in jail awaiting trial.
