(KMOV) -- Police say a man trying to make a U-turn caused a wrong-way crash in the Metro-East.
It happened around 6:00 p.m. on Monday in the eastbound lanes of I-64 between Green Mount Road and the Scott Air Force Base exit in O'Fallon, Ill.
Three people were injured in the crash. Only Brian Kuper, 43, who police say caused the crash, was seriously injured. Kuper is reportedly still hospitalized with severe head trauma. He was airlifted from the scene. The others only suffered minor injuries.
Police say Kuper caused the crash as he was trying to make a U-turn in an emergency section between O'Fallon and Shiloh, Ill. Instead he ended up driving westbound in the eastbound lanes. In all, four cars were involved in the accident.
No word yet on whether or not any charges will be filed.
