Tell Us: Would you turn in the money?
St. Louis (KMOV) -- Someone lost a large sum of money at the Fastrak convenience store on Big Bend Blvd. in Kirkwood, and thanks to an honest cashier, whoever lost it can get it back.
Kirkwood police are keeping the details of the money vague, but it's way more than most people can afford to lose.
Police said the money is between $1,500 and $2,500. Only the person for whom the money actually belongs knows exactly how much, the denominations, and how the cash was being carried.
The Kirkwood Police Department will make several attempts to find the owner of the money and will hang on to it for up to six months. If the money has not been claimed by then, it will go back to the cashier who found it.
Whitney Savens, a cashier at the Fashtrak, found the money over the weekend.
Savens said a Metro bus driver who saw the cash at the same time handed it to her.
"We kept it for a day and thought maybe they'd come back looking for it, but then when nobody did we turned it in,” said Savens.
Police call Whitney's decision to turn over the money to them a great act of good will. She just calls it doing what's right.
"Hopefully they'll see this and find their money,” said Savens.
