Delarrian Davis was doing his school work inside a home in the 2000 block of Skeen Street in Madison, Ill., when he was killed by a drive-by shooter shortly after midnight Tuesday, Madison County Sheriff's Capt. Brad Wells said.

Wells said authorities believe the killer also shot at a person who was walking in the 200 block of McCambridge Avenue a short time earlier.

A red vehicle that was reportedly seen at both crime scenes was found Tuesday afternoon in East St. Louis, Ill., investigators said.

Authorities are attempting to locate Marcus T. Powell, 27, who has listed addresses in East St. Louis and Pontoon Beach, Ill.

Wells said a person who identified himself as Powell told authorities he would not turn himself in.

Powell, who also goes by the nickname “Butterhead” might be wounded, authorities said.

There were four other children ranging in age from 12- to 16-years-old inside the home at the time of the shooting, Wells said.

Davis was a student at Madison Middle School, where counselors would be made available to students and staff.

All Madison School District activities scheduled for Tuesday and Wednesday were canceled.

More than 20 members of the Major Case Squad were called in to work on the case.
