JENNINGS, Mo. (KMOV) -- A 63-year-old man died after a fight with his nephew outside a Jennings apartment complex, police said.

St. Louis County police Sgt. Tracy Panus said Levi Battley, of the 10500 block of Edgefield Drive in Jennings, died as a result of blunt force trauma to his body and head.

Jason Ayansu, 31, who lived with Battley, was charged Sunday with second-degree murder and armed criminal action.

Police said the altercation happened outside an apartment complex in the 10000 block of Neville Walk around 10:30 a.m. Saturday.

Following the fight, Ayansu left his apartment and attempted to unsuccessfully steal a vehicle, Panus said.

He was taken into custody after a brief foot chase.

Ayansu was being held at the St. Louis County Justice Center in lieu of $100,000 bail.
