ST. LOUIS (KMOV) -- A 20-year-old Metro East man was killed and two other people were injured Sunday morning following a one-vehicle accident, police said.
Illinois State Police said Corey Buskirk, of Fults, Ill., was killed when a car in which he was riding crashed into a tree and utility pole near the intersection of State Route 163 and Eiler Road in St. Clair County around 5:30 a.m.
The driver and another passenger in the car -- Jason Phillips, 19, of Millstadt, Ill. -- were airlifted to St. Louis area hospitals in serious condition, authorities said.
A KMOV photojournalist said the car’s engine landed about 70 feet away from the accident scene in the front yard of a home.
Police said preliminary reports suggest alcohol may have played a role in the crash.
