SOUTH ST. LOUIS (KMOV.com) -

Lt. Col. Jerry Leyshock with the South Patrol Division of the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department says officers made three major gun and drug bust in the last seven days.

“Hard work creates hot streaks,” said Leyshock.

Leyshock says they’ve been tracking leads on convicted felons, especially those tied to narcotics.

“This is how we’re going to start to cut down on the amount of murders in the city and armed robberies,” said Leyshock.

The first bust led police to Hayward McKinney--- who police say had eight guns and two rifles --- along with fentanyl.

Then police nabbed Larry Weeden, accused of having more than a pound of fentanyl, six firearms, and nearly $50,000 in cash.

On Monday, police arrested Gene Cumberland for allegedly having two illegal guns and a live pipe bomb.

“They’re not getting out for a while,” said Leyshock.

Police don’t believe the men were affiliated with any gang.

The department says their officers are doing this same proactive work in other districts around the city.
