ST. CLAIR COUNTY, Il. (KMOV.com) -- The St. Clair County Sheriff’s Department is searching for a man who reportedly led officers on a chase that ended in a crash.

According to deputies, 53-year-old James Schaeffer was driving a 2005 Ford Explorer on Dutch Hollow in Belleville when officers attempted to pull him over.

Schaeffer’s license is revoked, and he fled.

He eventually drove out of Belleville into unincorporated St. Clair County before he flipped his truck near Pecan Lane.

No other vehicles were involved, but Schaeffer was taken to Memorial Hospital for injuries.

Before the sheriff’s deputy could arrive at the hospital, Schaeffer fled.

He’s charged with driving on a suspended license and fleeing officers. He is not currently in police custody.

Anyone who sees Schaeffer or knows of his whereabouts is asked to call their local police department or the Sheriff’s Department.
