ST. LOUIS (BaseballStL) -

Cardinals' starting pitcher Miles Mikolas is heading to Washington for his first MLB All-Star Game.

This is the second straight season that a Cardinals pitcher has been named to the NL All-Star team.  Carlos Martínez was an All-Star in 2017.

Matt Carpenter still has a fighting chance to make the All-Star team. Carpenter is one of five NL final vote candidates.

The infielder is up against  Milwaukee Brewers' Jesus Aguilar,  San Francisco Giants' Brandon Belt, Los Angeles Dodgers' Max Muncy and Trea Turner of Washington Nationals.

The game will be played on Tuesday, July 17.
