Officers with the Alton Police Department are looking for the suspect accused of stealing a purse and other items from a hospital patient.

According to authorities, the theft happened Wednesday morning at Alton Memorial Hospital. A man allegedly took a bag that had a purse and other items.

The bag belonged to a patient being treated at the hospital.

The suspect is captured holding the stolen bag on surveillance footage, police say.

Police describe the suspect as a heavy set, middle-aged man, who was wearing a blue New York Mets baseball cap, blue short-sleeve shirt, blue jean shorts, and white sneakers.

The suspect was last seen leaving in a small maroon, two-door vehicle with tinted windows and clear coat peeling from the hood.

Anyone who can identify this man is asked to call the Alton PD at 618-463-3505. Police say you may remain anonymous.
