WILDWOOD, Mo (KMOV.com) -

Leaky Lake Chesterfield in Wildwood was drained dry on Friday so engineers can finally figure out a permanent fix to the lake's problems.

Since 2004, the 22 acre lake has emptied twice leaving a large mud pit in the middle of a subdivision and costing homeowners in repairs.

A Lake Chesterfield trustee tells News 4 the plan now is to drain the lake and allow experts from the University of Missouri at Rolla to examine the floor and solve the drainage issue.
