ST. LOUIS (KMOV.com) -- The attorney for the woman at the center of the invasion of privacy case against former governor Eric Greitens released a statement Friday following the announcement from the Jackson County prosecutor that she will not refile charges after the initial case was dismissed.

The statement blasts both her ex-husband and Greitens, accusing her ex-husband of “selling her private story for a six-figure payout," and claiming the then-governor was “willing to spend millions of dollars spreading lies about her in an effort to save his political career.”

It’s unclear what the statement meant about the payout, but the attorney was likely referring to the $100,000 sent to the ex-husband’s attorney Al Watkins by Scott Faughn, editor of the Missouri Times.

News 4 has reached out to the woman’s attorney, Scott Simpson, for clarification as to whether they believe the money went to the ex-husband and not toward legal fees. He has not responded as of this writing.
