OVERLAND, Mo. (KMOV.com) -- Swastikas and lewd images of male body parts were drawn in black marker on the playground equipment at Robert Brooks Park in Overland.

“That’s not right, that’s wrong, that’s rude,” said Leslie Edenfield who was visiting the park.

News 4 called the city parks department and they sent out a crew to clean off the marker.

Parks and Recreation Director Erin Willey said they’ve been battling vandalism at this park for years.

“We’ve dealt with the restrooms being vandalized the most,” said Willey.

The city even had to remove the picnic tables and a bridge because they were vandalized so often a few years ago.

“They kept knocking down the wood slats so we had to take down the bridge for safety reasons,” said Willey.

To cut down on the damage the city has hired a park guard. They patrol the eight area parks in the city to try and be proactive in deterring the vandalism.

They said the biggest help they need is people reporting what they see to the city or police.

Willey said they can’t address the issue if they don’t know it’s happening.

Police will now be patrolling the area more often.

The city is also assessing if some deep cuts in the plastic can be sanded down, if epoxy placed over them or if the sections of the play-set will need to be replaced.
