ST. LOUIS (KMOV.com) – A man was shot and robbed after answering the door to someone who posed as a Charter employee in north St. Louis Tuesday evening.

The 33-year-old victim reportedly answered the front door to his home in the 8400 block of Lowell and saw the suspect holding a clipboard posing as a Charter employee. After talking with the suspect, the victim began to close the door but was rushed by four other suspects, according to police.

Once the suspects were inside the home, they forced the victim and four others to the ground and against walls. They then forced the man who originally answered the door to his bedroom, where the suspects demanded money.

After taking an undisclosed amount of money, the victim and one of the suspects got into a scuffle, during which the victim was shot in both arms and the abdomen.

The suspects then left the residence.

The victim was taken to the hospital and listed in ‘guarded condition,’ police said.

Charter said their employees will always wear branded attire and provide a company ID badge. They also said technicians drive company vehicles that are easily identifiable. If anyone is questioning why an employee is at their door they are urged to call the company or provide to validate the visit.

The investigation is ongoing.
