ST. LOUIS, Mo. (KMOV.com) -

Teens and young adults will have an easier way to travel across the St. Louis area this summer, thanks to Metro Transit.

The company is offering a Gateway Go card for youths between the ages of 13 and 25 to receive half-price tickets to ride public transportation. After providing proof of their age, riders can purchase a monthly pass for $30 or a one-way ride for $1.

St. Louis Mayor Lyda Krewson says she hopes the discount becomes permanent all year round, if the pilot program is successful.

"We ought to be able to try to develop life long transit riders through offering this to young people and also let's help young people get to where they need to go," said Krewson.

Metro partnered with the City of St. Louis, St. Louis County, St. Clair County Transit District, St. Louis Economic Development Partnership, Metro Transit and Bi-State Development for the program.

The Gateway Go card will be offered through the end of August.
