Police: Man charged with assaulting officer, drug possession in Caseyville

CASEYVILLE, Ill. (KMOV.com) -

A suspect is in custody after allegedly assaulting a Caseyville officer and drug possession.

On May 25, 2018, the Caseyville Police Department responded to 7th St. for a report of a suspicious vehicle. Police believed the driver was possibly intoxicated.

Upon arrival, the officers contacted the driver, Michael S. Ainsworth, and found he had a no bond felony warrant from another state.

After asking Ainsworth to step out of the vehicle, the suspect then pushed an officer and ran from the scene.

The suspect was then taken into custody after a short chase.

On May 27, 2018, the St. Clair County States Attorney’s office charged Michael S. Ainsworth with one count of aggravated battery on a police officer and two counts of possession of a controlled substance.

Ainsworth’s bond is set at $50,000.
