FLORISSANT, Mo. (KMOV.com) -

Steve Clifton says what he thought was sound from a Monday morning thunderstorm was actually the sound of a car barreling through his family’s vehicles.

Clifton says the crash woke him up at 3:30 a.m. A 1999 Buick Park Avenue crashed into his family’s Jeep and Honda Civic.

He believes speed was a factor.

“He must have been moving pretty good,” Clifton said.

But he and police are still trying to figure out the cause because they can’t find the driver.

“The driver of the vehicle ran, as soon as my neighbor came out,” Clifton said.

Police say the car was uninsured and unregistered in the St. Louis area.

“He needs to do the right thing and turn himself in,” Clifton says.

A wallet was left in the car but when police went to that address, the homeowners didn’t know where the person was.

Clifton says he hopes this person turns themselves in and he’s glad no one got hurt.

“Very grateful, normally my neighbors are out walking their dogs at 3:30 a.m. or 4:00 a.m., they were very fortunate.”
