ST. LOUIS, Mo. (KMOV.com) -

The Federal Bureau of Investigation has launched a campaign to educate the public on the consequences of posting hoax threats to schools and other public places.

The FBI warns communities that these hoax threats are not a joke and will be taken seriously.

In the aftermath of recent mass school shootings including Santa Fe High School and Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School, law enforcement say they often see an increase in threats made to schools.

The FBI and their partners confirm they follow up on every tip they receive from the public.

The public’s help is crucial to curb these hoax threats.

If you believe the safety of others is at risk, please reach out to local law enforcement, call 911, or contact the FBI via tips.fib.gov or by phone 1-800-CALL-FBI.
